SOCIAL MEDIA LESSON PLANS FOR TEACHERS WHO WANT TO HELP SHARE HOPE
Ever hear of You Tube? Chances are your students have. Many of them might be already producing their own videos at home and putting them online for all to see. The free-for-all nature of social media often scares school administrators, but what if you could capture the excitment they have about technology in a safe space while helping children and teenagers think critically about their online presence?
SharingHope.tv, a project of the American Cancer Society, gives kids a chance to teach each other about the dangers of smoking. Remember those peer education programs from the 80′s? With the advent of social media, kids are already influencing each other all across the globe. By helping them produce SharingHope.tv anti-smoking videos, you can help them channel that energy toward the positive goal of contemplating the effects of smoking and provide a safe outlet to share those thoughts with peers.
SharingHope.tv has a limited number of grants available for Flip cameras, an easy-to-use video camera perfect for filming short clips and uploading to SharingHope.tv. For more information, including a lesson plan, please email kara.sharinghope@gmail.com.
Intimidated by technology? If you can send an email, you can teach kids to share hope. Click here for more information about some of the social media worlds in which teens are immersed.
